About Australian Paving Centre (APC)

Australian Paving Centre (“APC”) is a national network of stores and a buying group. APC was established in 1986.

This document gives a broad overview into the APC business, including but not limited to a brief outline of the system, structure & management, training & potential growth.

APC provides opportunities for people who want to start their own business as well as people who are currently operating a well-established business, looking for a “bolt on” model that will add value to their existing business.

APC may offer a franchised model or a license, determined upon a number of variable factors and at the discretion of the Managing Director.

Regardless of whether you are granted a Franchise or License, you may still enjoy the professional support of the experienced APC network, the benefits of group purchasing & the access to the APC business systems (The APC System).

What Is Franchising?

Franchising is the cloning of an already successful business. APC grant another party (the Franchisee) the right to engage in the business pursuant to a Franchise Agreement & the Operations Manual.

APC allows the Franchisee to use its well-known business name, trademark or logo. The Franchisee conducts their own businesses in accordance with the marketing & business plan of Australian Paving Centre Pty Ltd (National Franchisor) who also provides to the Franchisee access to special pricing, quality products, ongoing marketing, training, business advice & administrative support.

A Franchisee is normally a stand-alone business.

What is a License?

APC grant the Licensee the right to purchase product from the Licensor or its suppliers, and to sell those products whilst using APC’s well-known business name, trademark or logo in accordance with the marketing & business plan of APC.

The License is pursuant to a License Agreement.

Licensees are normally operating another business which can be similar to APC or completely different to the licensed business.

The Licensee conducts their own independent business. A Licensee would conduct their own ongoing advertising, promotion & marketing.

A Licensee may choose what level of training; business advice & administrative support they require from the APC team.

Australian Paving Centre Pty Ltd is the National Franchisor.

The business consists of the following independently owned & or APC franchised stores;

APC Gawler, Westbourne Park, Mt Barker, Gepps Cross, Flinders Park, Lonsdale, Pt Adelaide & regional stores in Barossa Valley, Middleton, Kadina, Streaky Bay, Ceduna (Licensee) Pt Augusta- Roxby Downs & Mt Gambier.

Victorian Franchisees

APC Hamilton is the first store launched into regional Victoria.

Future growth

In South Australia APC has established one operating store for about every 30,000 to 50,000 households in the Adelaide metropolitan area.

APC will continue to increase its market share by:-

  • Further ongoing development of franchisees, licensees & their employees training through management programs & systems;
  • On-going development of the franchise store concept;

Founded, owned & operated Australian Paving Centre stores from 1986 to current, including a landscape & irrigation supplies business & a wholesale garden soils business.

Founded, owned & operated a business franchising paving installation, initially under the APC brand 1997 to 2000 & then under the Jim’s brand 2000 to 2005.

Owned & operated a contracting business namely Adelaide Paving Company (1995 to 2000), then rolled this business into Jim’s Paving, Concreting & Earthworks SA Regional Franchise & also Jim’s Paving, Concreting & Earthworks National Franchise System from November 2000 to current. Commenced & sold over 12 different businesses.

APC Revenue

Service & Administration

Fees vary between a Franchisee & a Licensee.

Franchised stores pay on going fees of 4% of total turnover to Australian Paving Centre Pty Ltd in the form of service & administration costs, towards the buying group.

Licensed stores pay a set monthly charge to cover service and administration costs towards the buying group.

Licensed stores do not pay fees on the percentage of total turnover.

Advertising

Stores outside of South Australia may conduct their own advertising, promotion & marketing in accordance with the terms of the Franchise Agreement or the License Agreement.

It is at the Franchisees or Licensees own cost to do their own local advertising.

Alternatively, APC can undertake this on the stores behalf in the form of an advertising fund, based on the successful model operated in South Australia.

South Australian Franchisees (including those run by the Franchisor) in the Adelaide metro area contribute 3% of gross turnover to an advertising fund. This fund is audited annually and is used for the advertising, promotion & marketing of the Adelaide Metro stores.

South Australian regional stores do not contribute to the advertising fund. They do their own ongoing advertising & marketing at their own cost.

Rebates

Rebates are paid to the National Franchisor or Licensor by some preferred suppliers on the group’s purchases in the form of a product rebate.

Advertising & Marketing

At APC we focus on internet advertising such as Google Adwords, Yellow On Line, Social Media, Search Engine Optimization & Website development.

We focus heavily on the APC brand, APC signage, point of sale material & brochures.

Our branding is essential & we mix corporate advertising with effective “call to action” internet advertising.

We promote the uniqueness of our displays & look for continued ways to grow the market.

APC have alliances with some preferred suppliers who assist with APC co branded brochures & marketing strategies.

APC advertising is designed to grow the market & compete with not just other paving & walling suppliers, but all other commodities that take sales away from our core product range.

It is APC’s intention to “create a need” for its products by building creative local displays unique to APC.

Training program outlined for Franchisees & Licensees

Clients have a minimum level of expectation when dealing with APC. It is important that store owners & their staff meet and exceed the client’s expectations.
Induction training helps new staff & storeowners who may not have owned their own business before, to overcome and prepare for the predictable hurdles.
Franchisee & Licensee attrition is reduced due to the ongoing development of their skills and knowledge, this leads to increased growth, value and sustainability of the APC System.
Competent APC Store owners earn greater respect in the market place, adding to the good will of our brand.

Training Procedure:

Franchisees & Licensees attend an initial business management course, including but not limited to specific details on sales & quoting, steps of a sale, standards and presentation and general APC business matters. Induction training helps new store owners who may not have owned their own business before, to overcome and prepare for the predictable hurdles.

After the initial sales training we commence on site training in an already established APC store with our designated trainer. Our allocated trainers work with you to give full support & training in every aspect of the APC System.

Training is provided both in the initial stages and ongoing. Training includes product training, sales training, order processing & adhering to all systems & policies. Manuals are provided & maintained, including store price books and sales handbooks.
